Shpella e Milotit · the dramatic first stop, reachable only by sea
Turtle Cave — known locally as Shpella e Milotit — is the opening act of the Easy Go route and one of the most photographed sea-caves on the Albanian Riviera. Carved into towering limestone cliffs about 8 kilometres northwest of Sarandë, the cave sits deep inside the wild Kakome Gorge, where the rock rises up to 15 metres straight out of the Ionian Sea. There are no roads here and no crowds — the only way in is by boat, which is exactly what makes the arrival feel like a discovery.
The name comes from two things travellers notice straight away: the weathered rock formations around the entrance that resemble a turtle's shell, and the sea turtles that are sometimes spotted gliding through the clear water nearby. Together they give the cave its character and its name — a small piece of Riviera folklore you'll understand the moment you see it from the deck.
As the boat eases toward the cliffs, the cave mouth opens in the rock and the water shifts to a vivid emerald-green over the pale seabed. The surrounding gorge is framed by dense Mediterranean scrub and bare grey stone — raw, untouched coastline with almost nothing man-made in sight. It's the kind of scene that needs no filter, and it's why this is the first camera-out moment of the trip.
Turtle Cave can only be reached from the water. It lies roughly 1.5 nautical miles west of Cape Qefali, on a rugged stretch of coast with no road access. The simplest and most reliable way to see it is on a boat tour departing from Sarandë — on the Easy Go route it's the first of five stops, combined with Anchor Bay, Gremina, Kakomë and Krorëz Beach in a single day on the water.
